Dr. Janet Shannon Elected 46th President of Saskatchewan Medical Association
(firmenpresse) - REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN -- (Marketwire) -- 05/04/12 -- Saskatoon anesthesiologist Dr. Janet Shannon was elected the 46th president of the Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA) at the SMA's Spring Representative Assembly in Regina on May 4. She succeeds Yorkton family physician Dr. Phillip Fourie.
"I am hoping that in the next year in my tenure as SMA president we will see the advancement of many quality improvement initiatives to further the delivery of patient care across the province," Dr. Shannon said. "I see the SMA playing many roles in this journey, and I look forward to assisting members with the ongoing promotion of physician leadership and engagement in health care innovation."
Dr. Shannon is a clinical professor with the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine and Pain Management at the University of Saskatchewan. She attended medical school at the University of Ottawa and moved to Saskatchewan where she completed a residency in anesthesiology.
Dr. Shannon has been an instrumental leader in the medical profession from the early stages of her career. She was head intern and was also a representative of the Professional Association of Internes and Residents of Saskatchewan during her first year of residency. Since 2005, she has been involved with the SMA, representing the section of anesthesiology and was appointed to the SMA Board of Directors in 2008.
She is actively involved in teaching both medical students and residents, and served on several committees within the Department of Anesthesiology.
Aside from medicine, Dr. Shannon is the president of her community association and is involved in the management of her children's sports teams. She enjoys participating in many sports in addition to travelling with her family.
