After Surviving War, Surgeries and Physical Therapy, a San Diego Marine Will Join His Beloved at the Altar This May

After Brian's two tours in Afghanistan, the Oceanside couple will tie the knot on Memorial Day weekend after four years together. The groom will join his bride at the altar after overcoming serious war-related physical injuries. The pair will marry at Wedgewood's Fallbrook location with the celebration they've always wanted. In light of the couple's story and their commitment to each other and their country, Wedgewood is proud to host this ceremony.
Although a wedding date is finally set for Memorial Day weekend of this year, the Meyers' road to the altar has been full of obstacles, such as distance, deployment and serious injuries. They had already planned a wedding ceremony at Wedgewood in 2011 before Brian returned from his second tour in Afghanistan having lost his right hand and leg, among other injuries.
Brian, a Marine, and Jessica, a civilian, met in Denver, CO. in 2008, and continued to date during Brian's first deployment to Afghanistan. Once he returned and Jessica moved to California, Brian proposed to Jessica in May 2010 and the couple quietly eloped; but still had dreams of a big wedding. Five months later, Brian was deployed to Afghanistan for a second time and Jessica started planning their August 2011 wedding at Wedgewood Wedding & Banquet Center in Fallbrook; but these plans came to a halt when Brian returned in March 2011 due to his injuries.
"Our wedding day was just a few months away when Brian got injured," Jessica said. "My main priority shifted from wedding planning to making sure Brian got healthy again."
Jessica stayed by Brian's side as he endured countless surgeries and was fitted for prosthetics at a medical center in Maryland. Brian was transferred to Balboa Navy Medical Center in San Diego, and continued months of physical therapy.
Today, Brian has recovered operation of his limbs, and is more than ready to walk down the aisle. Wedgewood Wedding & Banquet Center, where the couple planned to wed all along, has decided to honor Brian and Jessica by covering all wedding costs and hosting the ceremony on Memorial Day weekend.
