The new EnergySmart™ meters, which come with a stylish touch-screen display showing households how much energy they're using, are aimed at helping customers cut their bills and save money. It will also mean customers will be billed more accurately and no longer receive estimated letters.

Now households will get to compare their gas and electricity use by the hour, day, week and year. The technology will also mean people will be able to set their own energy targets and a traffic light system will warn customers when they are using large amounts of electricity.
