As Boris Johnson wins another four-year stint as London's mayor, reed.co.uk investigates whether he can stimulate job growth in the capital

(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 05/28/12 -- Earlier this month Londoner's voted and subsequently re-elected Conservative candidate, Boris Johnson, as their mayor. Johnson fended-off stern competition from Labour stalwart, Ken Livingstone, to retain London's mayoralty.

However, months before political debate over taxes and the shape of red buses dominated the campaign race, Mr Johnson spoke proudly of his 'nine-point' plan to lift London from its economic woes and tackle some of the city's most pressing issues.

Much of his winning campaign manifesto reaffirmed his nine-point pledges. Policies focused on improving transport in the city, creating affordable new housing projects and tackling crime. Yet one of Mr Johnson's more notable policies concerned economic growth, which he believes can be achieved through creation schemes and apprenticeships.

The mayor aims to create 200,000 new during his tenure - great news according to job site, reed.co.uk. They say Mr Johnson's plan for jobs growth isn't mere hyperbole given the numerous transport upgrades and infrastructural projects scheduled in the capital in the coming years.

reed.co.uk says people seeking and manufacturing - two industries struggling to create employment opportunities amidst national economic turmoil - will soon benefit from London-based recruitment drives.

According to his manifesto, Mr Johnson hopes 14,000 more jobs will be created through the Crossrail scheme, 18,500 via perpetual tube upgrade plans and 104,000 through numerous housing developments. The Olympic legacy project in East London is set to employ 10,000 workers alone.

Mr Johnson may have been widely lauded for introducing a popular biking scheme to the city during his first term in office, but his second term may be judged upon his ability to steer London's job growth in the right direction.
