Even Mickey Can't Beat Miami in a Tight Race for the Sunshine State's Friendliest City

(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/30/12 -- Tagged, the social network for meeting new people, today announced the results of its friendship index for the state of Florida, with Miami residents coming in as the friendliest Floridians. Specifically the city of Miami and suburb of Miami Gardens nabbed the top two spots followed by Orlando. South of Mickey's kingdom, and from the Gulf to the Atlantic, Southern Florida swept the state with top-ten friendliest cities including Saint Petersburg, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa and spring break favorite, Daytona Beach. State Capitol Tallahassee made the top five with Jacksonville finishing at No. 8.

Tagged's friendship index measured overall 'friendly activity,' including friend requests, virtual gift giving and other expressions of adoration (winks and luvs) for users located in cities with populations of 100,000 or more. The index reflects activity on Tagged from January 1 to April 30, 2012.

The top ten friendliest cities* in Florida are:

1. Miami, 254
2. Miami Gardens, 243
3. Orlando, 209
4. Tallahassee, 197
5. Saint Petersburg, 183
6. Fort Lauderdale, 181
7. Tampa, 180
8. Jacksonville, 179
9. Palm Bay, 163
10. Daytona Beach, 162

*Friendliness measured by the average number of friend requests, gift giving and expressions (winks and luvs) sent by active users in each location.

"Overall, Floridians up and down the state demonstrate their affection consistently with only a 92 point difference between the No. 1 and No. 10 'friendliest' spots in our friendship index," explained Vice President of Marketing Steve Sarner. "Southern Florida, however, has a dense population and incredible social scene, which makes it the perfect place for finding new local and international friends."

Florida has a lot to offer its 19 million residents, Tagged researchers noted, with 1,200 miles of sandy beaches, balmy weather and more golf courses than any other state in the country. Florida's rich culture is also influenced by its diverse population, which keeps the state feeling young even as more and more retirees also move to the Sunshine State:

Nicknamed the "Capital of Latin America" for its diverse Hispanic culture, Miami is home to more than 400,000 people who play an active role in Florida's finance, commerce, culture, entertainment and international trade markets. Although steeped in tradition, the easygoing nature and friendly attitudes of Miami residents make finding friends a true international experience.

Miami Gardens is not only home to Sun Life Stadium, where the Miami Dolphins and University of Miami Hurricanes pass, run and score, but to a larger working and middle class community. With more than 100,000 residents, Miami Gardens has the largest African-American community in the state including a growing population of Caribbean natives.

"The City Beautiful," Orlando, is home to Mickey Mouse and his Disney World Resort and hosts more than 51 million visitors each year. The confluence of people, places and activities make Orlando an exciting place to stay, play and socialize.
