Mountain Bike Nevada Seeks Adventure Riders
11 Day Journey Covers Historic Trails, National & State Parks, Historic Ranches

Sponsored by , , , Coconut Water and many other supportive partners, the tour will start at the historic on the north shore of Lake Tahoe and end in the shadow of on the Utah/Nevada state line. Traversing 536 miles of the new Great Basin Bike Route, riders will cross nine counties, six state parks, and 15 mountain ranges filled with mining ghost towns, wild mustang herds and wide open vistas of Nevada.
"We completed an exploratory ride in 2010 which led way to organizing the inaugural ride in 2011 and this year's second annual event. Each year we have raised money to benefit Nevada's public education," noted Steve Jones, co-founder of the Nevada-based , Inc. (the parent company of Mountain Bike Nevada).
Mountain Bike Nevada donates $100 on behalf of every rider to the . Nevada businesses are encouraged to step-up and donate on behalf of the riders' "mud, sweat and gears," said Jones. Organizer Todd Whear explained what is so special about the route: "The Great Basin Bike Route (GBBR) closely follows the American Discovery Trail (ADT), a coast-to-coast recreational trail geared towards hikers and equestrians. The GBBR was designed to go around sections of designated wilderness where mechanized vehicles are not allowed. Nevada is the first of 15 states that the ADT passes through to offer a bike-friendly route and Mountain Bike Nevada is proud to have spearheaded this effort."
The GBBR was developed in 2011 and is a tour of Nevada's incredibly diverse terrain and special interest locations that includes alpine lakes, desert playa, mining towns, archeological sites and historic ranches. "We visit six state parks and camp at four of them with the cooperation and support of our State Park system. Not many people realize that there are over 300 mountain ranges in Nevada and some of the tallest are out in the middle of the state. Our highest point in the route is the 19,108' Ophir Pass which crosses the Toiyabe Range in the central Nevada highlands," said Whear.
"Yes, the days are long and the views are epic, but the best part is relaxing in camp having a cold beverage and sharing stories of the day's adventure with your fellow trail mates... while the chefs prepare a delicious supper you would pay big bucks for in a restaurant," he said.
Mountain Bike Nevada is a fully-supported 11 day camping/hotel mountain bike tour that encourages individuals and corporate teams to join in a fun, friendly, non-competitive adventure. The 2012 Mountain Bike Nevada adventure tour is limited to 50 participants with registration available on-line until July 8, 2012.
