Berlin: June 14th - 15th, 2012

Perugia/Leipzig/Hanover/Warsaw.

On the 14th and 15th of June, the second European Conference on Cross-Border Mediation will be taking place in Berlin. Organized by the IMA (International Mediation Alliance) within the Civil Justice Programme of the European Commission, the conference is free of charge. Registration is now possible on http://de.amiando.com/ULOLDUC.htm.

For the conference, many internationally recognized scientists, trainers and lawyers could be won. In 18 different workshops divided into three sections, the participants learn more about developments and trends in the field of mediation and conflict resolution in Europe. One of the focal points of the conference is put on the bridging of physical distances via online-mediation.

Thus, the workshops deal with exciting topics such as “Trust in intercultural online mediation”, which tries to answer the question how - from a psychological point of view - trust arises and which role trust plays in the mediation process in general. It is introduced by Anne Rickert, a German customer service representative and mediator. Gert-Jan Kollenhof, a Dutch professional mediation expert and trainer, informs the participants about the success story of online mediation in the Netherlands, while Katalien Bollen, a PhD candidate in Organizational psychology at the University of Leuven in Belgium, offers the workshop “E-supported mediation: heating up or cooling down? - Chances and challenges for online mediation”.

Further workshops provide information about the role emotions play in mediation, the question whether mediators in cross-border family mediation should take into account the child’s best interest and how culture influences conflicts and conflict resolution.

Besides this program, the conference also offers the opportunity to establish contacts and exchange opinions with other participants or experts. In this context, there will be a networking event at the end of the first conference day.
