Thought Starters Design Concepts, New Substrates Bring Honors in Prestigious Competition

The judging panel at NeoCon 2012 awarded Seeyond a Silver Award in Architectural Products. Seeyond already holds a Best of NeoCon Gold Award in Architectural Products and is the winner of a coveted Best of NeoCon Innovation Award, given to only a handful of the most remarkable new ideas in commercial interior design and furnishings.

Thought Starters is a library of concepts that gives designers a starting point for creating unique commercial interior features. There are 45 Thought Starters in five feature types: walls, facings, columns, enclosures and clouds. Designers start with a feature type and modify it to suit their artistic imagination and practical needs. The Seeyond approach controls the process from concept to installation, ensuring the precise fabrication of the client vision.
Seeyond also introduced two new substrate offerings at NeoCon 2012: Solid Resin and Metal Composite. They join the original Seeyond substrate of Cellular Resin. With three substrates to choose from, designers can easily find the look, finish and performance characteristics best suited to their design concept.

Three different installations are featured, displaying just a sample of the wide-ranging capabilities of this innovative design-and-build system.
A 10-foot-tall by 8-foot-wide facing of Solid Resin, illuminated with fluorescent lighting and printed with a hi-res, digital image of an abstract watercolor.
A set of two freestanding mobile walls in Metal Composite, each 9 feet tall and 8 feet wide. One wall incorporates a window and the other a whiteboard. The outer surfaces of both are brushed aluminum and insides are a painted metal finish in eggshell white. Both are trimmed in solid sheet aluminum.
A 12-by-9-foot cloud in Cellular Resin, lensed with a "stones" pattern. Each of the 24 boxes in this cloud is individually lit with color-changing LED panels.

Seeyond created an S-shaped wall, 8 feet tall and 20 feet wide, that serves as a projection surface to display images of the Best of NeoCon 2012 winners. Made of Cellular Resin, the Best of NeoCon feature wall showcases a brushed copper screen-printed texture as well as a pleated surface.
Seeyond delivers a comprehensive solution that integrates the process of parametric design and digital fabrication of architectural specialty features. Seeyond allows users to create virtually any interior design feature using a proprietary specification tool. Seeyond then uses data from the user's design to drive the manufacturing process. Flat stock is precisely cut, then folded in origami-like fashion to create individual modules. The modules combine with no tools or visible hardware to create a self-structuring system.
