Minister Oliver Promotes Canada's Energy Potential at the International Economic Forum of the Americas: 18th Conference de Montreal
(firmenpresse) - MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 06/12/12 -- The Honourable Joe Oliver, Minister of Natural Resources, today delivered a keynote address at the International Economic Forum of the Americas: 18th Conference de Montreal.
"There is no question that, where energy is concerned, Canada is in a very strong position globally," said Minister Oliver. "We see opportunities to expand and diversify the markets for our energy and other natural resources beyond our traditional markets."
Minister Oliver added that the Government's plan for Responsible Resource Development will promote more timely development of our natural resources while strengthening our world-class environmental standards.
"Our resources are extensive and diverse, and we have a responsibility to ensure that they are developed in a way that protects both the economic and environmental interests of Canadians," said the Minister.
More than $500 billion could be invested in major energy and other natural resource projects in Canada in the next ten years alone. This potential investment would give economic growth and job creation a significant boost.
As part of Economic Action Plan 2012, the Government introduced legislation to modernize Canada's federal regulatory regime to attract investment, create jobs, build long-term prosperity and encourage national competitiveness while strengthening its world-class environmental standards.
The Minister also focused on the environment and clean energy initiatives across the country and highlighted Canada's varied energy mix, emphasizing that its electricity supply is one of the cleanest in the world.
Canada's investments in clean energy and its commitment to improving the environmental footprint of the oil sands ensure that economic development and environmental protection continue to be advanced together.
