(firmenpresse) - PORTLAND, ME -- (Marketwire) -- 06/20/12 -- The Bank of Maine Scholarship Foundation has announced the recipients of this year's grants under college scholarship program. This program provides $1,000 to selected high school seniors to be used toward the cost of attending college. Since 1985, the bank's Scholarship Foundation has awarded more than $313,000 in scholarships to 374 of Maine's graduating high school seniors.

"There is no better place to invest than in the education of children," said John W. Everets, Chairman of The Bank of Maine Scholarship Foundation. "With the rising costs of college, we know these funds are needed and will help these students realize their goal of earning a college degree. We are proud to play a role in encouraging the academic success of the students that live in our Maine communities."

The awards were based on financial need, academic achievement, community involvement and character and were open to high school seniors in all of the communities which the bank serves. Winners, their hometowns and schools are:
