Swinton's Road Trip Rules

Swinton's Road Trip Rules

ID: 160765

(firmenpresse) - MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 06/27/12 -- With many Britons expected to take summer road trips during July and August, Swinton is offering some useful advice to help these trips run as smoothly as possible.

The retailer is advising all motorists to ensure they pack an emergency breakdown kit in their car, especially if a long road trip is planned. In a recent survey by Swinton it was revealed that over half of drivers do not keep essential breakdown kits in their vehicle. Checking general maintenance of a car ahead of the journey will ensure any problems are identified before a trip begins.

It is vital that motorists also plan to take regular rest breaks on a long road trip. The general advice is to take 15 minutes for every two to three hours of driving.

Swinton is also warning motorists to be fully prepared if they are driving abroad. Many countries require drivers, by law, to carry certain items in their emergency breakdown kit including a warning triangle and a fluorescent jacket. Some countries will also require drivers to hold an international driving permit. It is essential that any motorist planning to drive abroad checks their policy as some providers will only cover for third party damage on the continent.

Motorists also need to be aware of the changing motoring laws in France which now require all drivers to carry a breathalyser kit in their vehicle.

Steve Chelton, Claims Manager at Swinton said, "Going on road trip can be lots of fun but it is essential that motorists are prepared for all eventualities. Checking the car before you set off, taking regular rest breaks on the road and checking your paperwork if you decided to venture onto the continent are all important to have a hassle free trip."
