(firmenpresse) - MILWAUKEE, WI and CHICAGO, IL -- (Marketwire) -- 07/02/12 -- To help advance new and effective models of care, the Alzheimer's Association®, Greater Illinois Chapter (AA-GIC) and CPI's Dementia Care Specialists (DCS) have entered into a partnership. The partnership will allow the AA-GIC and CPI to promote each other's efforts in providing training and sharing knowledge about Alzheimer's/dementias.

"Due to the rising number of individuals with Alzheimer's disease, the need for quality dementia care training is growing daily for the professionals who care for these most vulnerable of our population," said Erna Colborn, President and CEO of the AA-GIC. "No organization can meet the demand for training on its own. The AA-GIC continues to deliver superior learning opportunities for dementia care professionals. By also partnering with other quality providers of dementia training, we can extend our reach to more professionals, enabling them to be true specialists as they deliver care to those in need," Colborn added.

According to DCS President Kim Warchol, OTR/L, "We really have a shared mission to create a dementia capable society. With this new partnership, we will be able to reach more dementia care professionals in Illinois, who will be better equipped to not only provide direct care for people with dementia, but also advise, guide, and educate the families of those affected."

CPI's Dementia Capable Care training program, delivered by DCS, integrates three primary frameworks. These frameworks are used to develop proactive, abilities-focused care/service plans and help interdisciplinary teams problem solve and make decisions. The program yields excellent client results, such as improving levels of independence and facilitating activity engagement, and helps contain costs associated with lower staff turnover and enhanced revenue through reimbursable therapy services.

Recently, President Obama announced the creation of the first National Alzheimer's Plan. With more than 5.4 million Americans living with Alzheimer's, and many more projected over the coming years, CPI and the AA-GIC hope that the level of care provided by caregivers in Illinois can serve as an example as the US implements the National Alzheimer's Plan.
