Cermaq ASA : Cermaq takes a one-time charge of NOK 27 mill related to the IHN outbreak in Canada in May 2012
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
16(th) May 2012 Cermaq informed about detection of IHNv (Infectious
Haematopoietic Necrosis) in the Dixon Bay site on the west coast of Vancouver
Island. The site consisted of approximately 570,000 fish with an average weight
of 1 kg.
In accordance with the Company's focus on fish health and to reduce the risk for
infection to other sites, depopulation of the site was immediately decided. The
company has been performing a series of surveillance tests and the Virus has not
been detected at any other of Mainstream Canada sites. Total expenses in
relation to depopulation and clean-up are calculated to NOK 27 million.
Mainstream Canada is currently looking into the possibility to obtain
compensation either from the federal government or its insurance provider. It
has however not yet been possible to obtain an agreement with the insurance
company responsible for the biomass insurance. In accordance with the IFRS
requirement that a compensation must be virtually certain to be recognized in
the profit and loss statement, Cermaq will therefore book a one time charge of
NOK 27 million in the Groups 2(nd) quarter 2012 report, to be published 20(th)
July 2012.
