Located in the Rocky Mountains, just 35 miles west of Denver, the charming town is a popular tourist destination for its historic character and casinos. In the classic fashion of a gold boomtown, Central City's rush started when a miner stumbled upon what would become known as the "Gregory Lode" in a nearby mountain gulch. The miners who descended on the area, and their newfound fortunes, created the "Richest Square Mile on Earth" and became the economic driver of a brand new city.
The 6.8 +/- acre assemblage to be auctioned has 49,176 +/- sf of property zoned for gaming with five historic buildings including the Miller & Koch building, the Seavey Building, the Hawley Warehouse often photographed by tourists for its iconic image and the Register Call building previously home to the community newspaper, the Register-Call, and the original freight depot for the Colorado & Southern Railway.
Additionally, a former jail consisting of a small stone building with concrete steps, wooden door, skylight and windows with jail bars and a residential one bedroom, one bath home with a detached one-car garage and storage shed building will be auctioned.
"Central City is one of the few towns in Colorado that allows low stakes gaming, bringing modern entertainment to a town full of rich heritage," said Rob Bridges, senior vice president from Williams & Williams. "It's an opportunity for a visionary or entrepreneur to reinvigorate and restore these charming buildings in a tourist driven town -- or someone with a new vision to redevelop this acreage."
