Edmonton's Capital EX: Cranked Up, Pumped Up, Super Big Fun

(firmenpresse) - EDMONTON, ALBERTA -- (Marketwire) -- 07/12/12 -- There is no word in the English language more synonymous with than FUN. And that is exactly why is one of biggest draws in the summer scene. From July 20 - 29, this exhibition in Park is packed with almost as many kinds of fun as you can imagine... everything from heart-pumping roller coaster rides to live bands, from wakeboarding stunts to singing and dancing robots!

This year's theme for Capital EX is Cranked Up Music, Pumped Up Fun. "Music has always been a large component of our summer fair, but we wanted to take it to the next level this year," says Jennifer Sheehan, public relations specialist for Capital EX. There will be music almost everywhere - and for all tastes. "We've got jazz and blues, alternative, rock, country, lounge singers - no matter what you like, it will be there," she says.

On the , watching big-time acts will provide you with some big-time memories. There really is a thrill to experiencing live music outdoors on a hot summer night. It's like one big party, whether you're with a sea of people jumping up and down in time to the rock of Theory of a Deadman or taking in the more down to earth charms of country acts like George Canyon.

For those who dig a slightly more adult-contemporary feel to things, there's the adults-only Fusion 53 Lounge and Casino. Walk inside and you will relax immediately into a cool world of dim light, exquisite food and drinks, lounge furniture, lounge singers and duelling pianos. "It's a whole different side of Capital EX," says Sheehan.

Even this exhibition's fireworks are getting in on the music! Fireworks are mesmerizing and magical at the best of times, as you huddle with your special someone or your friends and "ooh" and "awe" at the colours filling the sky. But imagine all of that themed to songs picked so perfectly for that specific moment. Maybe it's something sentimental. Maybe it's something energizing. Either way, nothing ups the mood of fireworks like music. Fittingly, Capital EX's nightly fireworks soundtrack comes courtesy of popular Edmonton radio station UP! 99.3 FM.

And the music continues each and every day on the Capital EX exhibition grounds. New to the exhibition this year are the strolling music performers, like the Trinican Steel Orchestra (a sound of the tropics), a one-man-band named Bandaloni, and Rock It the Robot, who has one awesome interplanetary mission, says Sheehan: "to sing and dance with as many earthlings as he can."

But the music doesn't stop there. This year's Capital EX is packed with musical attractions and exhibitions, like an exhibit from a die-hard KISS fan and collector that showcases incredible KISS memorabilia... like "the Blood Cup used by Gene Simmons himself," says Sheehan.

For families, the number one don't-miss-this attraction is definitely Family Fun Town. It's an incredible place where kids can be almost anything: a farmer, a builder, or even someone who rescue rainforests. The Farm at Family Fun Town is an interactive experience for children ages 3 - 12. Kids can do incredible hands-on activities like cow-roping, cow-milking, tractor-driving and potato-planting. In the Construction Zone, kids use their imaginations to create life-size structures out of colourful blocks. In Bixby's Rainforest Rescue, children learn about conservation and preservation while helping Bixby to save the rainforest.

There are also plenty of family-friendly entertainment acts in the Capital EX Midway. You can take your children to the daytime shows on the TELUS Stage. Imagine the look of excitement on your child's face when their eyes go wide and they point to the stage because their most beloved TV characters are coming to life in musical and interactive performances.

For kids a little older, kids who love action, the Midway also has the TOP COP police academy. This interactive performance troop brings excitement to the grounds by performing unique challenges and exciting stunts. To those standing around with friends and enjoying mini-donuts, expect the unexpected. The TOP COP police academy sometimes recruits audience members!

When it comes to stunts - the Pumped Up Fun kind - The EX Zone on the Capital EX Midway has some of the best. Like the Wakeboard Rail Jam Thrill Show. Spectators are just steps away from the action as they watch some of wakeboarding's best riders slide and grind the rails. This is incredible stuff.

There's tons of Pumped Up Fun all throughout the Capital EX Midway, with exhibition rides like the brand new, heart-pumping Nitro. "The Nitro is a portable, classic North American style roller coaster that features 335-metres of hairpin turns, twists and dips. The massive green and blue track snakes riders on a very smooth ride as the Nitro navigates a series of hills," says Sheehan.

The Nitro got its name through a Name the New Coaster contest in Ottawa. When Ontario's Naomi Linstein was chosen as the winner, she was told she could choose one of three destinations to celebrate Nitro's inaugural year. She chose .

Why? Because when it comes to cranked up music and pumped up fun, no exhibition is quite as cool as Edmonton's Capital EX!
