is pleased to announce the appointment of Leon Botham, MSCE, PEng, as R&D Program Director for Environment & Sustainability with , the Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation.
A recognized mining expert and industry leader, Leon joined McElhanney in February 2011, leading the company's venture into the Saskatchewan market. In addition to his role as Vice President, Saskatchewan Region, Leon oversees McElhanney's mining operations. He is also the current President of the and a Past Chair of both the and the .
Leon's role with CEMI will involve providing assistance with and advisement on mining-related environmental and sustainability issues. He will also direct and monitor current research projects in the areas of tailings management, waste geochemistry, and biochemistry. Leon will work with CEMI's internal stakeholders and industrial clients to identify future research topics and coordinate with other research centres to promote collaboration on topics of mutual interest.
Based in Sudbury, Ontario, CEMI identifies and supports applied R&D projects in the metal mining industry, with a focus on collaboration and resource sharing. CEMI aims to promote innovation through a three-step process of research, development, and implementation.
