Drama Critics Circle Award Winner Tom Dugan, praised as "an actor of immense discipline, vitality, and presence" by Backstage, will return with his solo performance of "Robert E. "When I researched Lee, I was fascinated by his life and choices," says creator, playwright, and actor Tom Dugan. "Audiences are so intrigued that we've begun holding group discussions after every performance. People are fascinated, it's an absolutely enriching experience for all of us."
Having researched for three years to create the drama, Dugan's play maintains historical accuracy, with help from historians from The Museum of the Confederacy, The Virginia Historical Society and Appomattox Court House.
Mel Johnson, Jr. directs 'Shades of Gray,' with previous directing credits including "Give 'Em Hell, Harry" (starring Jason Alexander) and "Oscar to Oscar" (Dugan's first play), and acting credits including "Total Recall" with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Broadway's "The Lion King," and the critically acclaimed national tour of "Frederick Douglass - In The Shadow Of Slavery."

One-man play 'Robert E. Lee - Shades of Gray' invites audiences into the mind of the Confederate Commander moments before meeting with General Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865, the day Confederate Commander Robert E. Lee is to surrender to U.S. General Ulysses S. Grant. 'Shades of Gray' challenges audiences by revealing the Civil War commander was against slavery and repulsed by war.
