FINDLAY, Ohio, July 20, 2012 - Marathon Petroleum Corporation (NYSE: MPC) today
announced the publication of its 2011 Citizenship Report, which provides data
about the company's performance in the areas of health and safety, environmental
stewardship, diversity, governance and integrity, and economic impact.

"Since becoming an independent, publicly traded company, a key driver of our
success has been a long-time commitment to our corporate values," said MPC
President and Chief Executive Officer Gary R. Heminger. "We have some
significant accomplishments to talk about, and we also highlight areas where we
are working to improve. We are committed to presenting this data because we
believe sharing this information is important to our employees, the many
communities to which we belong, and our shareholders."

The health and safety performance measures include categories such as injuries
and employee wellness, while the environmental stewardship performance measures
provide data on pollutant emissions, waste generation, energy use and spills.
The report includes descriptions of programs MPC has in place to maintain high
performance, as well as awards and recognitions the company has received for its
safety and environmental accomplishments.

The MPC 2011 Citizenship Report also provides data on the impact the company has
on the economy, including dividends paid to shareholders, capital expenditures,
payroll information, procurement spending amounts and income taxes.

Although MPC has recently finished its first year as an independent company,
most of the metrics presented in its 2011 Citizenship Report provide five-year
data trends, as the company tracked this data for several years prior to its
spinoff from Marathon Oil Corporation.

"Based on our 125 years in the energy industry, we know that a commitment to

safety, environmental stewardship, diversity, integrity and community are
essential to our success," said Heminger. "These values will guide us as we
leverage the opportunities before us and continue to deliver peer-leading
shareholder value."
