(firmenpresse) - MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 07/23/12 -- The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, notes that the call for proposals as part of the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund will be launched this week. Interested community organizations, particularly not-for-profit organizations (NPOs) are therefore invited to submit their proposals online beginning on July 25, 2012.

"Improving communities' quality of life is a priority for the Government of Canada. For this reason, we have put in place the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, which is specifically designed to help NPOs and other organizations in our communities renovate their facilities," said the Minister.

Applications for funding are to be sent using the electronic form available on the Canada Economic Development Web site and must be received before October 1, 2012. A second, and last, call for proposals will be open from February 18 to April 30, 2013.

About the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF)

The CIIF is part of Canada's 2012 Economic Action Plan and has a nationwide budget of $150 million, including $31.2 million to be invested in Quebec.

The initiative, in effect until March 31, 3014, is intended to help not-for-profit public-sector and parapublic organizations and First Nations governments to fund projects to rehabilitate, improve or expand existing community infrastructure.
