ACS Industrial Services Highlights Urgent Need for Technical Education Reform

After looking at the curriculum of many schools, the article asserts that the issue is plain to see -- the educational system has not evolved with technology. Computer science classes have not changed in years, and many only offer instruction regarding word processing and other simple tasks. Furthermore, the gap in knowledge between basic computer science classes and more advanced courses, such as those in the Advanced Placement program, is so large that most students cannot excel in the more challenging course.

We need to engage kids in these skills at a young age and in a natural way, such as including computer science technology classes as core subjects rather than electives in our middle and high schools. Changing the core curriculum of the educational system is a major overhaul; however, it is thought by many to be one of the best solutions to the lack of STEM education. By encouraging more students to take STEM courses, even requiring them to, the United States educational system can prepare them for the jobs that will be available to them in the future.
