American Association for Laboratory Accreditation Implements Fortis' Document Management Solution to Streamline Paper-Intensive Accreditation Process and Ensure Compliance

(firmenpresse) - BRANFORD, CT -- (Marketwire) -- 07/26/12 -- Westbrook Technologies, developer of and enterprise content management (ECM) software, today announced that the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), a non-profit membership society, has implemented Fortis to centralize, streamline, and speed the accreditation process for laboratories. The organization's over 120 assessors across the U.S. and overseas, perform accreditation services for testing laboratories, calibration laboratories, inspection bodies, proficiency testing providers, medical testing laboratories, reference material producers, and product certification bodies.

Working with , a Westbrook Technologies partner, the A2LA's Fortis implementation saved the organization $50,000 annually in mailing and duplication costs; the ability to digitize documents and electronically share them with reviewers both here and abroad saved another $50,000 annually.

"A single lab's packet can have anywhere from 100 to 1,000 pages," said Daren Valentine, Director of IT for . "We were relying solely on paper processes. Over the past 15 years, we had to rent space at an outside storage facility. We needed a solution that would not only reduce the sheer amount of paper we generated, but also process, index, and centralize the documents so they could be easily accessed."

"While Fortis has enabled us to achieve cost-savings in Operations where the accreditation process is managed, it has also provided us with the flexibility to expand its use into Financial/Accounting and Quality Control Systems so we can index a variety of documents, whether they're invoices, reports, or payments," said Valentine. "In the future, we plan on adding Fortis features that will link it to other homegrown solutions and allow it to scan documents directly from our line-of-business applications so records can automatically be filed away in Fortis. Staying within one application will help us reduce redundant data entry and further streamline document storage and retrieval."

"Fortis helps non-profits overcome their unique operating challenges by providing a comprehensive solution that can securely manage the abundance of documents that they generate," said Einar Haukeland, CEO of Westbrook. "Forward-thinking organizations, such as A2LA, have realized the benefits of implementing a document management solution that can lessen the strain on their resources, while improving both customer service and internal efficiencies."
