Get as Fit as Bradley Wiggins

(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 08/06/12 -- If you've been inspired to get fit this summer because of Bradley Wiggins' achievement as the first ever Brit to win the Tour de France, who can blame you? Team this with his gold medal in the Olympics, and the fever that comes with the Games, it wouldn't come as a surprise if there was a sudden surge in the hunt for . After all, 2012 has been dubbed the summer of sport...
If you want to get as fit as Bradley, then it's worth noting the following:
Biking offers all the benefits of an intense cardio workout - sustained elevated heart rate, calorie burn, muscle toning - all with minimal impact. Sprinting and jogging can be hard on your joints but biking protects your joints by keeping them in a fluid motion. Start with around two and a half hours of cycling every week - your fitness levels will improve in no time at all.
If you're biking lots then you're going to need a lot of carbohydrates - these should make up between 50 - 70% of your diet. Think wholegrain wheat in cereals, and brown bread and rice. Avoid starchy food such as white bread because they lack vital nutrients. You'll also need protein to help your muscles grow - fish, turkey, chicken and lean mince are a good choice. And, as always, make sure you're getting your five a day!
If you think you'll lack motivation on your own then check out ; having a personal trainer can really help you push yourself to limits you didn't even know were possible. You'll get an individualised programme that is tailored specifically to your needs and training goals so if cycling long distance like Wiggins is your aim then your personal trainer will be able to help steer you in the right direction. If you're a beginner then a personal trainer is recommended to help you build the confidence and knowledge to decide what is right for you.
