Municipal Councils Exploring Opportunity for Local Operation of Natural Gas Distribution Business
(firmenpresse) - KINCARDINE, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/08/12 -- During separate closed sessions of the three participating Councils of the Municipalities of Arran-Elderslie, Township of Huron-Kinloss and Kincardine it was voted unanimously in favour to explore the potential of developing a joint municipal public utility for gas distribution. This appears to provide the greatest value to this region and for success of this project.
Based on previous Council resolutions adopted by the three participating municipalities, the natural gas committee was requested to investigate various natural gas distribution models (Private, Private-Public and Local Distribution Company-LDC) as potential solutions. To date, the LDC approach has emerged as the most favourable path to investigate.
To assist in the evaluation of this opportunity, the Municipal Services Board of Bruce Telecom has been asked to participate in the discussions on the evaluation of a plan to operate the local gas distribution system. Bruce Telecom is a public utility wholly owned by the Municipality of Kincardine providing local communities best in class telecom service including: Local Telephone, Internet, Digital TV and Cellular.

Based in Kincardine, and facilitated by the Penetangore Regional Economic Development Corporation (PREDC), the natural gas committee including representatives of the three partnering municipalities and local industry has been weighing a potential solution around this vital economic development project.
