(firmenpresse) - LEEDS, ENGLAND -- (Marketwire) -- 08/08/12 -- According to recent research, over a third of Brits (37 per cent) claim to have changed their lives in line with American culture despite over half of them never having crossed the pond.

The poll, conducted by the UK's fastest growing cola brand RC® Cola, also highlighted that a third of Brits believe that Americans are far more relaxed and outgoing than UK folk, enjoying a more glamorous lifestyle and varied culture too. One in seven Brits also claimed to celebrate Independence Day this year, with fireworks and BBQs at the ready.

The findings also revealed that the UK cities most heavily influenced by America are:

One of America's more obvious impacts on the nation is its use of language, with expressions like 'whatever' and 'awesome' becoming an everyday staple in almost every English dialect. Typically US events such as proms, baby showers and even sweet sixteens also continue to grow in popularity across the UK.

Other areas of British lifestyle that are inspired by American culture include entertainment (such as sport and television shows) and food. In fact, when it comes to summer dining in particular, items such as burgers, hot dogs and steaks continue to top the menus in UK households. What's more, the poll revealed that BBQ sauce has overtaken Brits' beloved tomato ketchup in the battle of the condiments.

Ally Whitehead, Assistant Brand Manager for RC Cola in the UK, said:

"In a year filled with British Pride, it is great to see just how many people are still keen to celebrate American culture. And, as one of America's oldest and best known brands, we are of course pleased to see that so many US tastes and traditions continue to prove popular with British consumers."

Following this research, RC Cola has teamed up with Masterchef 2011 winner Tim Anderson to create a series of American-inspired, Sizzling Summer recipe cards that are free to download from . From crispy coleslaws to pulled pork sandwiches, each recipe is cooked with RC's signature cola recipe and offers plenty of flavour.
