Ipsen supplies Dokka Fasteners's new hardening plant
Dokka Fasteners, based in Auburn Hills, MI, have ordered a large hardening plant for steel fasteners from Ipsen. It has been installed in their large-scale production facility in Michigan.

(firmenpresse) - The new Ipsen heat treatment plant in Auburn Hills, Michigan comprises a variety of specialized furnaces and supporting components that became part of Dokka Fasteners' manufacturing process. These include sealed quench furnaces for steel hardening, the necessary tempering furnaces, cleaning systems, and the handling equipment for handling the loads of components.
The facility for Dokka Fasteners in Auburn Hills, Michigan was set up for fully automatic operation using Ipsen's AutoMag 4.0 automation software.
By building this facility, Ipsen, worldwide leader in heat treatment technologies, is transferring its fully automatic, European heat treatment technology for use in industry in the United States. It is worth noting that the main Dokka plant at their headquarters in Norway has been successfully using a comparable Ipsen plant for the last 20 years. It has recently been expanded to increase its capacity threefold.
In Norway, Dokka Fasteners has been manufacturing specialized fastener systems for several decades. They have been used especially successfully in the highly-demanding wind turbine industry. Modern wind turbine manufacture relies on mastery of the technology of high-tension bolt-assemblies. Bolts made of high-performance steel alloys are heat treated, and used to mount structural elements under high load. This creates bolt assemblies that can withstand not only the considerable loads of normal turbine operation, but also remain unaffected by salt water, storms or frost during the expected 160,000 thousand hours of operation over 20 years including 17 billion load cycles that wind turbines have to withstand.
This specialized fastener technology focuses heavily on exacting and custom-tailored heat treatment to produce steel components with the material characteristics necessary for this demanding application.
Ipsen is the world's leading expert in heat treatment of steel. Ipsen has produced and installed more than 4,000 furnaces that precisely and reproducibly carry out all aspects of numerous different heat treatment processes.
Ipsen therefore has vast experience in the production and operation of these plants. Its processes have been developed and refined over decades of cooperation with leading European premium manufacturers. With the new Dokka Fasteners plant–the latest result of a decades-old cooperation–Ipsen is transferring key components of its expertise and experience to US industry.
Dokka Fasteners is the Norwegian specialist for heavy-duty fasteners. Dokka is part of the German Würth Group, an industry leader with € 9,7 billion total sales in 2011 and more than 420 subsidiaries in 84 countries. The newly ordered Ipsen heat treatment equipment is situated at the heart of a new, automated manufacturing plant in Auburn Hills, Michigan that produces hot-formed steel fasteners.
