Global Industry Experts Gather to Brainstorm Big Data Challenges and Opportunities Ahead, Including CTO of IBM Watson, the Big Data Analytics Game Changer
DataWeek Set to Host First Annual DataWeek Conference Next Month in San Francisco; Officially Announces Top Innovator Awards, Keynotes and Panelists

(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/23/12 -- DataWeek, the only week-long conference of its kind dedicated to creating a platform for Big Data thought leadership, today announced a full conference and several sessions with global Big Data authorities, including CTO of IBM's Watson Solutions, Rob High, who will deliver the event's keynote address this year. Other sessions include notable speakers from Google, Twitter, Accel Ventures, IBM Venture Capital Group, LinkedIn, Battery Ventures, and Jigsaw. Over 200 speakers from HortonWorks, CitrusLeaf, Dun & Bradstreet, Skytree and hundreds of other data-centric companies will participate in this week-long series of data events, workshops, hackathons, hiring mixers and meetups.
In his keynote, High will lead the discussion on how IBM Watson can transform the way businesses and individuals make decisions and how next generation systems will be designed. IBM's Watson has been in the industry spotlight, having outplayed two human competitors on Jeopardy by navigating the complexities of human speech, churning through 200 million pages of unstructured data in less than 3 seconds.
"In an information economy, data is the new capital. Corporations are unlocking the value in their terabytes of data, city governments are opening their city data for public use, and data startups are building on top of emerging social data feeds," said Geoff Domoracki, founder of Data 2.0. "The trend in Big Data is changing so quickly. By this time next year, the conference will need tracks on verticals as diverse as travel data, music data, and even fashion data. There seems to be a business model in every industry vertical now."
During the week-long event, leaders from the industry will discuss real life examples of how they have dealt with the complexity of big data analytics and share best practices. Kaggle, Opera Solutions, MetaMarkets, Netflix, Cloudera, and MetaOptimize will be on the panel Data Science, People, Algorithms, or Data? to discuss what will be the competitive weapon as companies embark on this journey. Gamification Analytics panel will include leaders from Badgeville, Kontagent, and Gigya. On the panel, Data Startups: From Investment to Exit, the participants will discuss venture strategies and the market forces impacting their growth.
Earlier this week, DataWeek 2012 also announced the names of 19 companies who were selected by popular vote for the DataWeek awards.
"A common trend among DataWeek award recipients is that most of the technologies are available both online and for small businesses and startups," said Domoracki. "This showcases a change from previous decades, when customers required large up-front payments and intensive on-site installation. The current trend of lightweight, low-cost, plug-and-play data technology arises from a focus on software-as-a-service, data-as-a-service, and analytics-as-a-service."
