"Headend in the Sky" Will Bring Digital Cable TV to 120 Million, Pave the Way for Future IPTV and OTT Services in India

(firmenpresse) - NEW DELHI, INDIA and NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 08/29/12 -- KIT digital Inc. (NASDAQ: KITD), a leading video management software and services company, and Jain TV Group's Noida Software Technology Park Limited (NSPTL), the leading Indian provider of satellite broadcast infrastructure services, today announced the selection of KIT digital to design, build, and manage a new, state-of-the-art digital cable television distribution platform for India.

NSTPL's "Headend in the Sky" (HITS) will enable the distribution of digital TV signals via a satellite headend to thousands of local cable operators, and millions of viewers, across India. The HITS platform will allow India's small and medium cable operators to digitize their service with little or no upfront cost, and provide the framework for the near-term rollout of IPTV and over-the-top (OTT) services to their customers.

"NSTPL is driving the adoption of digital cable TV across India by ensuring that small and mid-sized cable operators can seamlessly and affordably make this vital transition," said Dr. J.K. Jain, chairman of NSTPL and Jain TV Group. "Using KIT digital's flexible and expandable technology, the HITS platform will assure India's cable TV operators and viewers of state-of-the-art service options far into the future."

KIT digital, whose software and services facilitate broadcast and IPTV delivery for enterprises around the globe, is the solution architect and sole systems integrator for the HITS platform, managing the system deployment and contributions from technology partners Motorola Mobility and Intelsat. KIT digital will also provide managed services for the entire platform going forward after launch. The $15 million contract will run for five years.

"This is exactly the type of opportunity we're focused on: serving global OTT providers with our combination of software products and service expertise," said Barak Bar-Cohen, KIT digital Chief Executive Officer. "Our competitive advantage of supporting numerous large scale deployments in both developed and emerging markets make us the clear choice for customers like NSTPL that are seeking robust, multi-device video solutions."

KIT digital will supply an end-to-end solution for a multiplex service with the capacity to distribute over 500 channels to cable operators across India. The service will begin with 200 standard definition channels and five high definition channels, and grow over time. Motorola Mobility will provide network hardware and set-top boxes that KIT digital will integrate into the system. Intelsat will provide the satellite services.

"We've designed the HITS platform and its network infrastructure to allow for a seamless expansion to an IP-based video delivery system, supporting OTT services and a vastly richer TV experience for hundreds of millions of Indian households," said Nicole Dixon, KIT digital Managing Director APAC. "This platform demonstrates our ability to solve pressing problems in emerging markets the world over, and the value we provide to our customers and their end-users ensures that this will be just one of many commercial successes we achieve."

With more than 20 years of experience in satellite-based services, NSTPL is a world-class provider of quality services such as TV broadcasting, video uplink, news gathering, occasional feeds, news feeds, downlinking of international channels, and integration of teleports and DSNG. NSTPL is presently serving more than 50 national and international broadcasters.
