Local Businesses Keep Future Bright for Local Residents and Students
(firmenpresse) - CHARLOTTE, NC -- (Marketwire) -- 08/30/12 -- Charlotte, which is rapidly becoming a new energy hub, with more than 200 companies employing more than 20,000 employees, remains progressive in discovering new ways to produce and implement the use of clean and reliable energy, which has prompted two local Charlotte businesses to lean forward in innovation and education.
Since 2009, Duke Energy has used the McAlpine neighborhood as a central testing ground for new energy technologies that can provide a more reliable and efficient delivery of electricity. With a range of technologies including solar panels, energy storage batteries, smart meters, home energy managers, smart appliances, electric vehicles and charging stations in residential and office garages; this test bed is an example of the bright future of the electrical grid.
CLT Joules and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte's Energy Production and Infrastructure Center are two programs helping to train, support and grow the emerging energy sector in Charlotte. CLT Joules, housed in Packard Place, is a business community for energy innovators and entrepreneurs that support early stage energy companies with a community where they can learn, accelerate growth and connect to the energy ecosystem of Charlotte.
"We are developing engineers both for fulfilling the existing need in industry but also developing new energy solutions in the future," said Johan Enslin, President of EPIC at UNC Charlotte. "(In Charlotte) there is a developing energy hub. It has a number of manufacturing companies, a number of energy companies, a number of technology companies and innovation companies in the energy space."
