American Diabetes Association and Meijer Join Forces to Stop Diabetes(R)
(firmenpresse) - ALEXANDRIA, VA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/05/12 -- The American Diabetes Association (Association), the nation's leading voluntary health organization in the fight to Stop Diabetes®, is pleased to announce that Meijer, the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based supercenter chain, has signed a five-year agreement as a regional sponsor of the Association's Stop Diabetes Movement.
Meijer is a family-owned company that has a tradition of supporting the communities where its customers and team members work and live.
Meijer will support the Stop Diabetes movement by sponsoring key Association activities in the retailer's five-state region: Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky. Activities include but are not limited to Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes, Diabetes Camps and Live EMPOWERED. In addition, the company will provide its customers with diabetes educational information from the Association.

This collaboration is the latest initiative that Meijer has launched in the fight against diabetes. In November, Meijer launched a chain-wide effort to increase its pharmacy expertise by training more than 200 pharmacists as diabetes specialists. In 2010, Meijer began offering the most commonly prescribed treatment for type 2 diabetes, called metformin, at no cost to those with a prescription.
Stop Diabetes is the American Diabetes Association's movement to end the devastating toll that diabetes takes on the lives of millions of individuals across our nation.
