Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Canada Partners With Roots Canada to Sell Lemonade to Raise Funds for Youth Across the Country

Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Canada and Roots Canada along with the support of Minute Maid are selling lemonade on September 8th, 2012 to raise funds to help young people reach their full potential through mentoring. In addition to selling lemonade, customers of Roots Canada will be encouraged to donate to Big Brothers Big Sisters to help the organization match youth with volunteer mentors.
"We are thrilled to partner with Roots and Minute Maid to raise much needed funds to match more children with volunteer mentors," said Bruce MacDonald, President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. "Our research shows that youth who have a mentor are less likely to bully or be bullied and more likely to stay in school. We have thousands of children on waiting lists across the country, with the school year beginning, this event comes at a good time."
The fundraising efforts are being held in all Roots locations across the country but the lemonade stands will be located in flagship stores in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax.
"This is our first fundraising effort with Big Brothers Big Sisters," said Roots co-founder Michael Buttman, "and we are very thrilled to create awareness about the importance of mentoring as well as raise funds to support the movement across the country.
"We'd love to see more Canadian retailers follow Roots example and get involved," said MacDonald. "And we look forward to a long-standing relationship with Roots in years to come."
