Canada and Taiwan Renew Their Science and Technology Partnership
15th Year Anniversary Celebration heralds new approach to joint research
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/06/12 -- On September 6, 2012, Mr. John R. McDougall, President of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), is hosting Dr. Cyrus Chu, Minister of the National Science Council (NSC) of Taiwan and a Taiwanese delegation in Ottawa, Canada, at a celebration of 15 years of successful partnerships with NSC and Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI).
This celebration serves to showcase a more focused approach to collaborations and to demonstrate how the relationship will go forward with a stronger emphasis from both sides on commercializing joint research and delivering products to market for the benefit of both Canada and Taiwan.
The event will culminate with the renewal of NRC-NSC Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for another five years. Objectives of the MoU include the promotion of research and development collaboration in S&T fields of mutual interest and encouraging the commercialization of research deliverables through industry cooperation.
New projects in vaccines and biologics will be announced with the aim to commercialize research in these two areas. Training opportunities, exchanges of scientific and technical personnel as well as joint cooperative research projects will be part of the arrangement.
NRC's relationship with the Taiwanese organizations has been nurtured for over 15 years and serves a variety of purposes. It provides access to people, networks, knowledge, resources and facilities, which support NRC's goal for more rapid technology development and commercialization.
