(firmenpresse) - SANTA BARBARA, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/11/12 -- Green Hills Software, the largest independent vendor of embedded software solutions, will deliver technology presentations at the Embedded Systems Conference in Boston, MA, Hynes Convention Center, during the week of September 17, 2012. In booth #409, Green Hills Software will also demonstrate its latest embedded software solutions.

Green Hills Software speaker presentations include:

Tuesday, September 18, 2012, 8:00 AM-9:15 AM
Hynes Convention Center, Embedded Systems Conference, ESC-2011, Room 312
Greg Davis, Director Engineering
While 85% of embedded designs use C and C++, these languages are notorious for their inherent lack of safety. Many of the most common sources of errors are unlikely to show up during testing, and may manifest themselves later as costly product glitches and glaring security holes. This talk focuses on the tools and techniques that can be used to augment any software design paradigm. Techniques include coding conventions, automatic run-time error checking, manual compile-time and run-time assertions, static analysis, and the most common mistakes to avoid.

Greg Davis, Director of Engineering
Compile-time checking in C and C++ can catch many sources of errors, but there are numerous errors that may cause run-time failures. The multicore environment with concurrent processors adds another dimension to the development challenge, creating many more ways for code to fail. Many of these failures are unlikely to show up during product testing, and will only show up later as costly product glitches. This class describes the top sources of run-time errors in multicore systems and how to avoid them in order to write reliable code.

Medical device manufacturers are faced with a daunting challenge. They must balance customer demand for new features like advanced graphics, wireless communications, and secure management of patient information, while at the same time ensuring device reliability and safety, attaining device approval, and getting their products to market in a timely fashion. In this session we'll examine a software architecture that leverages software separation to safely manage the increasing complexity of software in today's medical devices.

Wednesday, September 19, 2012, 10:45 AM-11:45 AM
Hynes Convention Center, Android Summit, AD-3002, Room 309
Thomas Cantrell, Engineering Manager, Embedded Networking
Android adoption is growing rapidly in electronic products, yet Android security solutions are in their infancy. This session discusses emerging technologies to address secure boot, data-at-rest and in-transit encryption, user authentication, and application/environment sandboxing in an Android environment that has proven fertile to hackers. Session includes security technology demonstration on an Android tablet.

Thursday, September 20, 2012, 8:00 AM-9:15 AM
Hynes Convention Center, Embedded Systems Conference, ESC-4003, Room 304
Thomas Cantrell, Engineering Manager, Embedded Networking
Embedded systems, from mobile devices to low powered sensor networks, are becoming new members of the "Internet of Things," adding features such as field upgrade, remote management, and application downloads. The growth of these new devices adds further pressure to the nearly exhausted IPv4 address space. This class starts by talking about the reasons for the growth in IPv6 interest and customer requirements over the last year. It talks about the technical details of IPv6 in relation to traditional IPv4 networking. It then explores how to add and support IPv6 at the system level and at the application level.

Understanding the compilation process is crucial to generating the tightest code from your source code. Compiler technology has not yet run its course, and new cutting-edge optimizations have made enormous execution and code size savings. This session will survey some of my favorite optimizations: some are old, but highly effective, while others are virtually unknown outside of the tight knit community of compiler developers. All of them are, in my opinion, quite fascinating.

In booth #409, Green Hills Software will offer a wide range of interesting presentations and demonstrations, including:

For thirty years, Green Hills Software has solved the most challenging problems in embedded software. This live demonstration will show Green Hills Software's leadership in performance optimization, tools and techniques for maximizing developer productivity, and expertise in building safe, secure, and reliable embedded software.

Green Hills will demonstrate its for Freescale i.MX 6 series processors featuring the latest in 2D and 3D graphics acceleration. This demonstration will also feature integrated middleware components from Green Hills Software's Total Solutions Partners. Icon Labs' Floodgate embedded firewall and Real Time Logic's Barracuda application server will be featured enabling secure web services and remote management.

Green Hills will demonstrate its industry-leading and for the Texas Instruments Hercules™ RM48x Safety MCU. The Hercules family of Safety MCUs targets IEC 61508 and ISO 26262 safety-critical applications and provides integrated safety features while delivering scalable performance, connectivity, and memory options. The MULTI IDE and provide a comprehensive suite of tools for debugging safety applications that measurably reduce development time. The Green Hills Compiler provides the highest performance, most reliable code generation for Hercules for developers who want to maximize the performance of their systems.

In the Digia booth Green Hills Software will demonstrate:

Green Hills Software will demonstrate the Qt Graphical User Interface and application framework integration with the INTEGRITY RTOS on the TI Sitara AM3517 processor. The demonstration will feature a medical device patient monitoring application, which can be used in combination with the Green Hills to add rich user interfaces alongside safety-critical code.

Founded in 1982, Green Hills Software is the largest independent vendor of embedded development solutions.
