Boothe Eye Care Urges Parents to Consider Signs of Eye Problems in Children
A New Report Suggests That Many Kids Have a Problem With Their Eyesight -- but That Many of Them Do Not Even Realize It; This Finding Has Won the Attention of Boothe Eye Care
(firmenpresse) - PLANO, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 09/12/12 -- Back-to-school season is in full swing, and with it comes a flurry of activity -- including back-to-school shopping, back-to-school haircuts, and even medical checkups. According to a recent , however, parents should add eye exams to their list of back-to-school activities. The report suggests that many children have problems with their eyesight and do not even realize it, a sobering reality that has won the attention of .
According to the report, roughly 1 in 4 kids have some kind of problem with their vision. However, it is often difficult for children to realize that they are not seeing things as well as they should. These findings have prompted a press statement from Boothe Eye Care, a practice that has long championed the importance of regular eye exams and routine ocular health.
"This is a great reminder to all of us of the importance of routine checkups," says Dr. William Boothe, the practice's leader, in the press statement. "After all, we undergo regular physical evaluations to ensure that our bodies are performing the way they ought to be. Why would we not do the same with our eyes?"
The Boothe Eye Care statement goes on to note that it is up to the parent to ensure that his or her child is receiving the proper ophthalmologic attention. "Given the high statistics for eye problems in kids, and the inability of many kids to detect that there is a problem, it almost goes without saying that routine eye appointments are a must," says Dr. Boothe. "When kids turn five, they need to start receiving eye exams once a year, at a minimum. This is an important, precautionary step to help safeguard their precious gift of sight."
Dr. Boothe also says that routine eye exams can help detect problems that might otherwise evade notice. "A lot of ocular diseases can be detected at a fairly early stage," he says. "Routine checkups are simply great ways to catch potential issues before they become more severe. This is an especially good practice to be in with our children!"
The Boothe Eye Care statement notes that the original report lists some signs and symptoms for parents to be aware of. Some of these common signs of vision problems include an aptitude for learning verbally better than visually; a reluctance to do much "near visual" work; a short attention span; and poor posture when reading or writing.
