National Truck Driver Appreciation Week a Time to Consider the Importance of Truck Drivers

(firmenpresse) - HOUSTON, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 09/17/12 -- Truck Jobs Today, a national recruitment agency focused on , encourages motorists to participate in National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, which runs through Saturday. The agency says this week is also the time for consumers to consider the importance of truck drivers.

"Without drivers delivering goods daily, store shelves and fuel stations would empty quickly and the country would come to a standstill," says Christopher Grant, CEO of Truck Jobs Today. "It's a simple fact: our country cannot operate without truck drivers. Yet, it is an under-appreciated job."

The agency is asking motorists to support truck drivers by allowing them more room on the roadways rather than cutting in or pulling out in front of them. Grant says people can also drop by truck stops, easily recognizable by the parked and fueling trucks, and tell drivers how much they appreciate their work.

"Consider how difficult it is to maneuver a 70 foot tractor-trailer or stop that 80,000 pounds when a car suddenly pulls out in front of it, and do what you can to make it easier for the drivers," says Grant. "Show your appreciation and thank them for the job they do."

Grant also says now is the time to think about . The U.S. is struggling with a shortage of drivers. As the economy continues to move out of a recession and grow that shortage will increase without new drivers coming in. Filling jobs for truck drivers must become a priority, Grant says.

Those interested are encouraged to visit , where you can learn about the , apply for a job or get information about training. Grant says through qualified training schools, students can learn to become a truck driver in a short period of time and be on the road to a new career.
