International conference discusses sustainable investments in Russia
Moscow, 14 of September 2012 -More than 350 Participants from Russia, the
Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Germany, the United Kingdom,
the Netherlands and France gathered in Moscow to discuss current trends and
recent developments in the area of social and environmental investments in
Russia and Europe. With the generous support of Vnesheconombank of Russia
(VEB), co-organizer and Main sponsor, the forum was held on the 11th and
12th of September in the Hotel Savoy in the heart of the Russian Capital.
Mr. Jevgeni Geller, Board Member of The Russian Sustainable Investment
Initiative (RSII) and Dr. Evgeny Shvarts, Director of Conservation Policy,
WWF Russia express their gratitude for the support from Vnesheconombank,
En+, Vontobel, SAM - Sustainable Asset Management and MSCI.
The Organizational Committee wants to thank further The United
Nations-backed Principles for Responsible Investment Initiative (PRI), The
United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), Russia's
Sberbank, the European Sustainable Investment Forum (Eurosif) and the
German Bundesbank for their participation.
Inspirational presentations and encouraging discussions
The conference, prepared by HansaFincon strongly endorsed the benefits of
sustainable investments and proactive state policies.
Dr. Sergey Vasiliev, Deputy Chairman of Vnesheconombank gave an insightful
speech on the Prospects of SRI Practices in Russia. Mr. Gavrilov from
Sberbank emphasized the importance of environmental and social factors for
the economical development of the Russian Federation while Dr. Vladimir
Maximov from the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation
presented low carbon investment opportunities in Russia.
