(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 10/03/12 -- As trading performance and planning applications go from strength to strength, look set to keep growing. Today we round up a selection of the latest news to impact on Manchester Airports Group (MAG).

Strong trading performance

Despite the challenging economic climate, MAG increased its share of the aviation market by 0.4% to 15.8% and took passenger numbers to 24.0m (a 1.5m increase) across the group, showing the first annual increase since 2008.

Manchester successfully delivered ten months of consecutive market share gains in 2011-12 because they introduced new carriers and secured further expansion from existing airlines. Rental income has benefitted from the launch of new retailers including Next, Jo Malon and Bobbi Brown. Additionally the airport also benefitted from pop-up retailers including Pandora, Oakley and Radley. The airport say continues growth in car park services, particularly the pre-book, meet and greet valet products.

MAG Chief Executive, Charlie Cornish said: "This year has been a period of transformation for MAG during which we have delivered strong performance against stretching targets in the context of tough global trading conditions for the aviation sector."

World Logistics Hub planning application at Manchester Airport Enterprise Zone

MAG has submitted a planning application for the development of aGBP 100m World Logistics Hub in Greater Manchester's Enterprise Zone at Manchester Airport. The Enterprise Zone development will create up to 1.4million square feet of new logistics space, generating more than 1,800 jobs for local people, in addition to job associated with the construction process.

If your business is looking for then the proposed development could be your perfect business solution. World Logistics Hub seeks to create a world-class logistics region for a mix of medium and small sized logistics units.

World Logistics Hub will enable a wide range of air-to-road transfer, assembly and processing activities for freight forwarders and other logistics businesses with easy access to the Airport's apron, train station and UK motorway network.

John Atkins, MAG's Airport City Director, commented: "This scheme will create a sustainable commercial product of international significance that will provide high quality and well-connected logistics facilities with access to the global marketplace and a population of over 24m people within a two-hour drive time. This connectivity will increase employment opportunities and stimulating economic activity in the North West."
