Houston Plastic Surgeon on Rise of Tummy Tuck Popularity
(firmenpresse) - HOUSTON, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 10/04/12 -- Dr. Sam Sukkar, a board-certified plastic surgeon, says he has witnessed an increase in the popularity of tummy tuck procedures at his practice: roughly about 20-25% of his patients undergo the body contouring surgery. In regards to why he believes the procedure has steadily gained popularity at his practice, Dr. Sukkar says he utilizes unique and effective techniques:
"I offer a variety of revolutionary concepts to give the best result possible. I also perform with all of my tummy tuck procedures, and have done so since 2002. This appeals to most of the patients that I consult as they have excess fatty tissue not only in the tissues we are removing, but many times in the tissues that will be left behind. Unlike the way many surgeons are taught, I tend to focus on the tissue I am leaving behind, rather than the tissue that I am removing. More often than not, optimizing the aesthetics of this tissue requires performing liposuction. In addition, rather than discard the fatty tissue, I prefer to enhance the patient's new shape by creating greater contrasts between the positive and negative spaces that define what is beautiful. This is accomplished by augmenting the positive spaces with the patient's own fatty tissue."
Dr. Sukkar says ideal candidates for a procedure are patients wanting to improve their abdominal and trunk appearance. He adds, "They also usually exhibit the desires that lead people to seek out this surgery, such as the removal of excess skin and fat, as well as tightening the muscle tissue of the abdominal wall." To achieve each patient's specific goals, Dr. Sukkar conducts a detailed preoperative consultation with a physical examination to determine the appropriate procedure(s) to be performed. During the consultation, he also discusses the procedure in detail and covers what to expect after the surgery.
The says recovery times are solely based on the individual and the guidance of his or her surgeon. "Most patients do best when they have a 10-14 day period of recovery," says Dr. Sukkar. "I have certainly had several patients who have resumed normal activities and functions after only a week, but I would say this is the exception rather than the rule." When choosing a plastic surgeon, Dr. Sukkar adds that patients should always consult with a board-certified surgeon.
