Durometer permit a measurement of the initial hardness and of the hardness which results after a certain time like the PCE-DD D Durometer. The material hardness of metal, plastic, rubber, textiles and many others materials can be measured. Hardness is measured in Rockwell B, Rockwell C, Vickers HV, Brinell HB, Shore HS ... or in hardness according to DIN units. In the production, quality assurance and in service, durometer and especially the mobile devices are in great demand. With minimal effort, material tests can be performed with high accuracy giving you a true reading of the surface harness of the material. A distinction is made between static and dynamic methods for measuring hardness, but all are based on the same principle. A penetrator is constantly pressed into the material with a certain force.The penetration depth is depending on the hardness of the material. For the construction of parts, a core mostly made of tough, rigid material is provided with a very hard surface layer. Iron, stainless steel, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze and copper can be checked quickly, accurately and easily with a hardness tester for metallic materials.
All other devices are used to determine the Shore hardness of rubber, plastics or textiles.
