The Law Society of Upper Canada regulates the lawyers and paralegals of Ontario in the public interest. The Law Society ensures that all lawyers and licensed paralegals in Ontario meet standards of learning, professional competence and professional conduct that are appropriate for the legal services provided.
As part of this mandate, the Law Society's Hearing and Appeal Panels recently heard the following matters. Hearing and Appeal Panels are responsible for determining the appropriate disposition of cases.
Vassilios Apostolopoulos, of the City of Toronto
Decision: His application for a Class L1 licence was granted
Douglas Allan Brown (2002) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for one month commencing August 31, 2012 and continuing indefinitely until conditions are met
Patrice Andre Joseph Cote (1999) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was reprimanded
Joseph Henri Hector Emond (1982) of the City of Ottawa
Decision: The Lawyer's appeal from the order of the hearing panel dated August 31, 2011 was dismissed as being moot
Terence Austin Kelly (1982) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer appealed an order of the hearing panel dated February 23, 2010. The appeal panel set aside Particulars 9 and 11 and ordered a new hearing in relation to those particulars, should the Society consider it in the public interest to proceed to a new hearing
Andrew Leonard Lafantaisie (2009) of the City of Sudbury
Decision: The Paralegal was suspended for one month, to be served after he reinstates himself as an active member of the Society and fulfils the specified term
Ryszart George Litkowski (1991) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was reprimanded and has to comply with specified conditions if he changes his practice status to Sole Practitioner
Peter Michael Miller (1979) of the City of Waterloo
Decision: The Lawyer was suspended for 30 days commencing October 1, 2012 followed by an indefinite suspension until specified conditions are met
Oscar Choi-Wah Wong (1977) of the Town of Richmond Hill
Decision: The Lawyer was suspended for four months commencing December 1, 2012
