The Schools' Outdoor Education Program Turns 16 This Year
(firmenpresse) - SAN PEDRO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/08/12 -- Rolling Hills Prep School (RHP) and its integrated and affiliated school, Renaissance School for Arts & Sciences, will take their students off campus and into the outdoors this month.
The program intentionally takes students (and teachers) out of their comfort zones, allowing this adventure to become one of the most memorable experiences of a student's educational career. The program changes each year (with each grade) so students have a great variety of memories linked to their Outdoor Education trip. During the week of October 15-18 (October 22-25 for 5th and 6th grades) students are removed from the noise of televisions, cell phones and traffic and placed in situations where appreciation and understanding of nature, ecosystems and environmental issues emerge. Cooperation and collaboration are essential to many of the activities.
Rather than simply having teachers with camping experience leading these excursions, RHP and Renaissance enlist the support of well-respected outdoor outfits such as Naturalists at Large, the Pali Institute, and Guided Discoveries to maximize the experience. Teachers chaperone the trips and take part in all activities.
Each grade spends a week in different locations:
