Parents Considering LASIK: What Questions Should They Ask Their Surgeon?

Parents who are considering have a different set of questions about the laser eye surgery than single people and couples without children.
Dr. Eric Donnenfeld, one of the leading refractive surgeons in the United States and a member of the American Refractive Surgery Council, gets asked two questions the most. These are the questions and the advice he offers:
Parents will find the operation barely interferes with their normal routine, although they do need to have someone else be responsible for their kids the day of the surgery. This allows one parent to act as taxi driver while the parent having the surgery can focus on resting once they get home. They should be able to resume their normal parenting activities, with certain limitations, the next day.
Allowing children to watch the surgery can be a good idea if they're older than 3 years as it reassures them that nothing scary is happening to their parent and everything's going to be okay. Make sure the surgeon explains the procedure to the family before surgery starts and that a staff member sits with them during the operation to answer any questions or concerns. Afterwards, the surgeon can bring the children to visit the parent in post-op and get them on board with "playing nurse" and helping out at home for the next few days.
