(firmenpresse) - PRIMM, NEVADA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/11/12 -- Today Nevada State Office of Energy director Stacey Crowley, City of Henderson Mayor Andy A. Hafen, Vice President, Green Energy, Enbridge Inc. Don Thompson, other dignitaries, and community and business leaders gathered to dedicate Enbridge's Silver State North 50-megawatt solar plant, the first utility-scale solar project built on public lands. During the festivities, Enbridge recognized three community partners: the Clean Energy Project, Clark County Fire Station #87 and Solar NV.

Crowley congratulated Enbridge on a successful project as well as the economic development benefits the project has brought to the community of Primm and the state.

"This project exemplifies Governor Sandoval's goal of making Nevada the leader of renewable energy and technology innovation in the country. It harnesses the renewable resources that Nevada has in abundance and is driving economic growth in the local community and throughout the state," said Crowley.

As part of Enbridge's introduction to the community, the Henderson Chamber of Commerce also celebrated the event with an official ribbon cutting.

In addition to showcasing their latest solar project, Enbridge recognized two organizations whose missions are to educate, engage and implement renewable energy projects in their communities. The first responder to Silver State North also received a grant to help underwrite special projects, training and equipment.

Clean Energy Project, Inc. is a nonprofit, non-partisan organization dedicated to powering the clean energy economy through education and engagement with policy leaders, community leaders and citizens on the economic benefits of fully developing a clean energy economy.

Solar NV's mission is to educate Nevadans about the benefits of renewable energy and to encourage and promote the use of sustainable energy technology.

Under the Safe Community program, Enbridge supports Clark County Fire Station #87, the first responder to the Silver State North project. The Fire Department works to provide optimum protection and prevention for Las Vegas residents and visitors, with the highest level of valor, integrity, commitment, teamwork and community involvement.

"Silver State North marks Enbridge's entry into the U.S. Solar energy market and demonstrates Enbridge's continuing commitment to growing its green energy business," said Don Thompson, Vice President, Green Energy, Enbridge Inc. "Enbridge is proud to support organizations in the communities where we have a presence to help further education initiatives and keep our communities safe."

Silver State North, the 50-megawatt project in Clark County, Nevada, was completed in May of 2012. The photovoltaic plant created more than 380 construction jobs, produces enough renewable energy to power about 9,000 Nevada homes, displacing some 42,000 metric tons of CO2 per year, and taking the equivalent of about 8,000 cars off the road.
