Minister of State Celebrates Launch of National Science and Technology Week
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 10/12/12 -- On the occasion of the launch of National Science and Technology Week, the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology), made the following statement:
"Expanding young people's knowledge of and interest in science and engineering is increasingly important in 21st-century Canada. From October 12 to 21, more than 100 Canadian organizations, including museums, schools and science centres, will host events and activities to inspire youth to consider careers in these fields.
"In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government committed to creating opportunities for high-quality jobs and economic growth. Ensuring that young people have the skills they need to succeed and contribute to Canadian society is an investment in renewing and expanding the country's highly skilled workforce and, ultimately, an investment in Canada's future.
"National Science and Technology Week raises awareness of the importance of science and technology while celebrating Canada's role as a leader in innovation. During this week, Canadians in communities across the country are invited to participate in activities and events celebrating science and technology."
