Pure Storage Honored With Prestigious Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award
Takes Home Silver for Overall Innovation and Also Wins in "Computing Systems" Category
(firmenpresse) - MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/22/12 -- Pure Storage, the all-flash enterprise storage array company, today announced that it has been named a winner in the Wall Street Journal's 2012 Technology Innovation Awards for its Pure Storage FlashArray. The company took top honors in the prestigious competition's Computing Systems category and nabbed the program's 2012 Silver designation for overall innovation across the program's 18 categories.
"Pure has solved the biggest obstacle to greater adoption by companies of ... solid-state storage, which stores data electronically instead of on disks: its high cost," wrote Michael Totty, News Editor at the Wall Street Journal, in his announcing Pure Storage's recognition.
"It could be a game changer in enterprise storage," said Meera Sampath, an Innovation Awards judge and director of Xerox Research Centre India, in an interview with the Journal's Totty.
The Pure Storage FlashArray delivers all the performance of flash at less than the price of disk, and it is the industry's first enterprise class all-flash storage array that is production-ready and priced at $5-10/GB. FlashArray is 10x faster, 10x more space and power efficient, and radically simpler to manage, all at less than the price of performance disk. The Pure Storage FlashArray is ideal for high performance workloads, including server virtualization, desktop virtualization (VDI), database (OLTP, real-time analytics) and cloud computing.
"We are very honored by this recognition from the Wall Street Journal. The competition was fierce, and the high caliber of innovation of our fellow entrants, coupled with this prominent designation from the Wall Street Journal is further validation that we are on the right track," said Scott Dietzen, CEO at Pure Storage. "Flash memory transformed consumer technology and we are now on the verge of a similar transformation in the enterprise. The FlashArray is already disrupting the incumbent storage market. For our part, we are proud to be the first company to successfully introduce new levels of performance, reliability, efficiency and affordability to the datacenter, by eliminating the cost barriers associated with broad enterprise adoption of flash."
Now in its ninth year, the Wall Street Journal Innovation Awards identify and highlight ideas that both break new ground and demonstrate some measurable impact. This year's program attracted nearly 540 entries from companies around the world, with only 7-percent of applicants making the final cut for recognition among the year's leading innovations.
To select the winners of this year's awards, Wall Street Journal editors and reporters reviewed and narrowed down the applicant pool to less than 200 entries that were then sent to an independent panel of judges from venture capital firms, universities and companies for final review. From that pool, the judges chose a total of 37 winners, in 18 categories. Applications were assessed on several criteria, including whether the innovation breaks conventional processes in its field, whether it goes beyond marginal improvement and the magnitude and range of impact the innovation will have.
