Leisure travel activities have largely returned to normal following the
disruptions to air services as a result of the volcanic eruption in
Iceland. Some 7 500 inclusive-tour travellers from the Scandinavian and
Swiss markets have now been provided with travel home. Return travel
arrangements continue to be organised on scheduled airlines for individual
travellers from other Kuoni markets. The Kuoni Group as a whole is
estimated to have incurred exceptional costs of CHF 18 million as a result
of the global flight disruptions, as will be stated in the group's 2010
first-half results.
Around 15 000 travellers from the Scandinavian and Swiss inclusive-tour
markets were affected by the flight cancellations of last weekend because
they would otherwise have travelled to or back from their holidays during
the airspace closure period. Almost all of the approximately 7 500
beach-holiday clients who were stranded at their destination have since
returned home. Most of the customers who were unable to depart for their
holiday have now rebooked. Individual travellers in Kuoni's further markets
have also been affected. For them, Kuoni continues to arrange return travel
opportunities in collaboration with the scheduled airlines.
The Kuoni Group is estimated to have incurred costs of CHF 18 million since
the airspace closures over Europe began on Sunday 17 April. These will be
shown as exceptional costs in the 2010 first-half results.
