Austrian music history comes to life on Schmittenhöhe
In the Strauss anniversary year Zell am See-Kaprun stages Hochkultur from 8th August

(firmenpresse) - If you think of Austria, one of the first things to cross your mind will probably be the Alpine mountain world. But without any doubt music is inextricably linked with this country, too. One of the most renowned Austrian dynasties is the Strauss family. On the 160th and the 110th anniversary of the death of Johann Strauss, Sr., and Johann Strauss, Jr., respectively, Zell am See-Kaprun puts a limelight on the epoch of these one-of-a-kind musicians. From 8th August, the region stages 'Hochkultur' once again - an event which harmoniously unites music and the stunning nature of the Alpine republic.
After last year's resounding success when the event focused on operettas 2009 will be dedicated to Waltzes and Schrammel music. As early as in the middle of the 19th century, the Austrian capital of Vienna witnessed the birth of the Waltz and its conquest of Europe. There is hardly any other family of composers which has influenced this music style as deeply as the Strauss family. But how did this family use to live? Where were their roots? And what is their legacy? These and many other questions will be answered at the Hochkultur event - by Dr. Eduard Strauss. The great-grandnephew of the Waltz King Johann Strauss, Jr., knows the family history like no other.
On Saturday, 8th August, Strauss will report in detail on the life of his ancestors. From 1:30 pm he will share the 'Fascination of Strauss' with his audience. Just like last year, the presentation will take place on the summit of 2,000-metre-high Schmittenhöhe. There, music and nature, two prominent features of Austria, are to join hands. It was the agency 'Music Arts Vienna' from the Austrian capital which has come up with this concept and which was so lucky as to win musicologist and radio journalist Otto Brusatti for this year's Hochkultur event in Zell am See-Kaprun. The host of the Austrian radio station Ö1 has made a name for himself as an author and stage director, too, and will be leading through the concert of 'Neue Wiener Concert Schrammeln' scheduled for 3.15 pm.
The quartet consisting of Peter Uhler, Valmir Ziu, Günter Haumer, and Peter Havlicek presents music which represents Viennese snide humour and the life style of the late 19th century in perfection. The lush green meadows of the local mountain of Zell are the perfect setting for this pearl of Austrian music. The concert will end around 5 pm.
On Sunday, 9th August, Hochkultur will boast another highlight: just like last year, the Johann Strauss Ensemble from Linz is coming to Zell am See-Kaprun. From 3 pm the renowned orchestra is playing the most beautiful waltzes on Schmittenhöhe. Guests can look forward to an ensemble which has already performed at the concert halls of Monte Carlo, Paris, and Rome - first-class musical entertainment can be taken for granted.
