4th CTI Symposium and Exhibition
"Transmissions and Drive Trains North America"

8th and 9th June 2010, Ann Arbor, MI, USA

Ann Arbor/Düsseldorf, April 2010. The postponement of the US senate climate and
energy bill has placed the emission goals promised by the US at the UN Climate
Summit in Copenhagen under increasing pressure. While American politics
continues to struggle on agreeing a framework for environmental policy, the US
automobile manufacturer Ford has announced that it will reduce CO2 emissions by
30% in its new models in Europe and the USA by 2020 in comparison to 2006.
Alongside electric vehicles, Ford will be focusing here on petrol hybrid drive
systems and plug-in hybrids. To reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, the
Ford Fiesta has been manufactured since February with the new double-clutch
transmission developed by GETRAG, which will make possible a reduction in fuel
consumption of up to 20%.

At the 4th CTI Symposium "Automotive Transmissions and Drive Trains North
America" (8th and 9th June 2010, Ann Arbor, MI, USA), representatives of the
international transmission and drive train community will be presenting their
newest developments and concepts for fuel efficient and CO2 reducing drive
system technologies. An overview of the environmental and climate policy changes
in the USA and their effects on the automobile and drive system industries will
be provided by Christopher Grundler (Environment Protection Agency, USA).

Dan Hancock (General Motors, USA) will describe how the largest American
automobile manufacturer General Motors is using the very latest drive system
technology to advance the area of sustainability. An insight into the strategies

being used by Chrysler for reducing fuel consumption will be provided by Dr.
Mircea Gradu (Chrysler Group LLC). Philip Gott (IHS Global Insight, Inc., USA)
will discuss the importance of the development of the Asian transmission market
for sales and procurement.

The newly developed 7-speed dual clutch transmission from the GETRAG Powershift
product line and a lightweight low torque version will be presented by Stephan
Bungart (GETRAG FORD Transmissions GmbH, Germany) as part of the four parallel
sessions. Dr. Constantinos Vafidis (Fiat Powertrain Technologies S.p.A, Italy)
will demonstrate the HTD-DDCT transmission with its high torque and large volume
application. Alongside different automatic and clutch transmissions, the CTI
Symposium will also take on the issue of optimization processes for automobile
drive systems. Alternative drive systems and trends in the development of
batteries are other focal points of the Symposium. On the second day of the
event, John McElroy (Autoline) will host a discussion forum including Justin
Ward (Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, USA), William
Kelley (BorgWarner Inc) and Dr. Jochem Wolschendorf (FEV Engine Technology,
Inc.).

The CTI Symposium "Automotive Transmission and Drive Trains" was developed as
the American branch of the large international CTI transmission Symposium that
takes place every year in Berlin, Germany. Similar to the founding event in
Europe, the American Symposium is also accompanied by a comprehensive trade
exhibition - the Transmission Expo.
