(firmenpresse) - REVELSTOKE, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/02/12 -- Today, David Wilks, Member of Parliament for Kootenay - Columbia, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced $95,149 in federal funding for the Revelstoke Forum, Aquatic Centre and tennis courts under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

"I am proud to see Revelstoke benefit from the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund,' said MP Wilks. "This investment will help create jobs and growth, and will support the prosperity of the community for years to come."

Funding will help the City of Revelstoke improve the Revelstoke Forum, Aquatic Centre and tennis courts. Renovations will include upgrading the Forum lighting system, converting the Aquatic Center to a chlorine sanitization system, constructing a 400 square foot storage room, and resurfacing the tennis courts.

"We are pleased to accept the Federal Government's investment in our City's Community and Recreation facilities," stated Revelstoke's Mayor Raven. "This funding allows us to complete some necessary maintenance and upgrades that will further benefit our healthy and active community. The City of Revelstoke appreciates working with MP Wilks and the Honourable Lynne Yelich in support of community goals."

CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.

Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
