Shasta Ventures Funds the Launch of the NodeFly APM, Performance Monitoring for the Growing Node.js Community

ID: 201282

(firmenpresse) - VANCOUVER, BC -- (Marketwire) -- 11/08/12 -- NodeFly () announced today it has secured financing led by Shasta Ventures with additional funding from Appcelerator, Inc and angel investors Issac Roth (Red Hat, Makara, Wily Technology), Irfhan Rajani (Apparent Networks), Paul Rochester (Sun, Layer 7) and Dimitri Sirota (Layer 7).

Today, NodeFly has launched an open beta of a Node.js Application Performance Monitoring solution (APM). "As a Node.js user, we needed to find a solution to monitor ourselves and thus our APM solution was born," says Eugene Kaydalov, CTO of NodeFly. "Unlike monitors built for multiple languages (and primarily page-oriented), NodeFly is purpose-built for Node.js and with the team focused exclusively on Node.js we believe we can deliver the best features for Node.js DevOps teams."

"From my time at Red Hat OpenShift I know that Node.js is a major trend, and from my time at Wily Technology, the leading APM vendor for Java in the last generation, I know how important and valuable performance monitoring is," says Issac Roth.

With a simple npm install the NodeFly agent begins capturing and displaying real time data. After spending the last six months working with five of the largest Node.js deployments, NodeFly's current iteration has several features exclusive to Node.js:

Top 10 slowest Functions (including support for Express)

Heap, RSS and a baseline after a full GC

Event loop blockage monitor

Average times by tier, providing timing on the Node.js code for the http layer, data layer and external calls (i.e. RESTful interfaces, Facebook and Twitter APIs)

Monitoring for slowest Node.js calls to Redis, MySQL, MongoDB and memcached

"Our platform is built on Node.js and we really needed to make sure that we were scaling well and could effectively monitor and manage our platform across different servers and data centers," says Lee Johnson, Founder and CEO of FlightOffice.com. "We waited for other monitoring providers to catch up to the Node.js tsunami, but nobody seemed to appreciate how important Node.js has become. NodeFly gives us the deep monitoring details that we need."

"Enterprises are writing social, local and mobile applications in a new generation of event-driven frameworks, with Node.js being one of the most popular. We believe that NodeFly is poised to help Node.js find greater acceptance in the larger enterprise market," says Jason Pressman, Managing Director of Shasta Ventures. "Glen and Eugene are immensely talented entrepreneurs and we are excited to be a part of NodeFly."
