Gadgets the clear gift of choice in TeamBuy.ca's inaugural Holiday Shopping Index

(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/12/12 -- Attn: News, Business and Lifetsyle editors.

All the world knows how polite Canadians are, but a recent survey on holiday gifting and online shopping trends has revealed something else: Canadians are big givers too.

Almost half, 45.2 per cent, said they were planning to shop online for five or more presents this holiday season, according to findings from the first annual TeamBuy.ca Holiday Shopping Index, a survey of over 1,100 Canadians coast-to-coast. More than a quarter, 27.3 per cent, said they would be buying for between four and five people, while only 4.8 per cent of Canadians would be shopping for just one. When it comes to how much we'll be spending, conservatism seems to be the trend with the majority of Canadians, about 63 per cent, planning to spend less than $50 per holiday gift this year.

The survey also delved into what sorts of presents Canadians plan to give, with gadgets being the clear go-to gift. More than two-thirds of Canadians, 66.5 per cent, said they planned to give gadgets and toys to their loved ones. Even more, 68.1 per cent, said "small gadgets" such as tablet computers and MP3 players were on the top of their lists. Other consumer technology that made the cut included speakers, headsets and docking stations (45.3 per cent say they will give them as gifts). Board games will also be a big category this holiday, with 40.3 per cent of Canadians planning to put a bow on them.

"The online shopping trend is still very much alive and well and it's because Canadians know a good deal when they see one," says Ghassan Halazon, CEO of the deals website, TeamBuy.ca. "We might not be a bunch of bargain-hunters, but when it comes to holiday shopping, our survey shows that price and savings will be big factors in where we spend our money."

In fact, as Canadians get even more comfortable shopping online, 37.9 per cent say price will be the most important factor they'll consider before checking out this holiday season, girding online destinations such as TeamBuy.ca for busy days ahead.

The survey's other key online holiday shopping findings include:

Now offering a wider variety of online shopping opportunities than ever before, greater savings, better product and service offerings and highly ranked customer service initiatives, TeamBuy.ca is at the forefront of the category - quickly becoming the online holiday shopping destination for Canadians this year.
